Here are 4 easy steps to create your own pizza garden.
Step 1 – Choose the area
Selecting a great sunny spot that is protected by wind is essential for your pizza patch. If you are creating a garden with the kids then the location will need to also be safe and in a bird’s eye view.
Step 2 – Build the garden
Create a circle with string and sticks and divide it into slices like a pizza. Your garden will even look like a pizza. You will then need to prepare the surface and dig out the grass if needed. You may also need to put edging around the garden. Otherwise, if you do not have space then growing them in round pots is also a great idea. Lay the soil and compost and get ready to plant. The equipment that you will need includes:
- Watering hose or can
- Stalks or chalice
- Gardening tools
- String and sticks to tie
Step 3 – Select your vegetables
Tomatoes is the obvious choice for growing your own pizza garden. There are so many varieties to choose from especially if you want to make your own pizza sauce. Bunnings or your local nursery will have great advice for the types of tomatoes that you can grow.
There are also so many different types of vegetables that can be included in your pizza garden. Cauliflower is a great one to make your own cauliflower bases. Here is a great recipe by Taste in how to make your base. Corn, zucchini, capsicum and onions are some ideas but the list is endless.
Step 4 – Don’t forget the herbs
A homemade pizza is nothing without fresh beautiful herbs. Here is a list of herbs to choose from that will compliment your pizza.
Plant the vegetables and herbs into each of the segments. You may need to make a couple of gardens if you are planning quite a few. One grown, turn on the pizza oven and enjoy! The kids will have a great time planting and eating!
