One of the best things in a garden is the special little touches that the kids bring. It’s also a great way to engage the kids outside. Most children love to be outside, and giving them an activity to create something that remains in the garden, make the experience even better. I was trolling through Pinterest the other day and found some great hands on activities that you can make at home with the kids.

Rainbow Plant Markers

I’m loving these rainbow plant markers, and they are super easy to make. You can pick them up at Bunnings for around $1.00 each or for a more economical option, you can purchase some appropriate wood in long lengths and cut them down. Using coloured acrylic paint, coat one side at a time with paint, and then coat with a sealer. Using white fabric paint, carefully write the names of the herbs and let dry.

D.I.Y Toadstools

Cutting down some tree branches? Don’t throw them away, you can make them into some pretty cool garden decorations, with the help of some cheap bowls. Not a bad recycling lesson as well. Spray paint red, and use a template for the white spots. Secure with a screw through the top.

Lots of fun for kids in finding the toes to match the feet. Who needs hopscotch when you can create activity areas using these.
